What is a sleep disorder?
There are three main categories of sleep
disturbance:
- The inability to fall asleep.
- The inability to stay asleep.
- The inability to stay awake during the
daytime.
Other disorders involve internal body rhythm
alterations or are primary disorders of excessive sleepiness. Disorders
affecting nighttime sleep are very common. These include obstructive sleep apnea
and periodic leg movements.
How are sleep disorders diagnosed?
To accurately diagnose most sleep disorders, the
patient will need to undergo a study called a Polysomnogram. This is an
overnight study that is performed in our accredited facility. The study consists
of measuring brainwave and muscle tone activity, eye movements, heart rate and
rhythm, breathing patterns and oxygen levels. This polysomnogram is attended and
monitored by a highly trained technologist.
Benefits of our diagnostic program:
- State of the art sleep studies.
- Sleep study results returned within three
business days.
