This document is for those who own a CPAP.

Please keep in mind that most people have an adjustment period before they are fully comfortable with their CPAP.  Try to be patient and persistent.  You should start to feel positive results soon after your adjustment period. 

Some challenges that may arise (and their solutions)

Pressure Points

  • Adjust headgear

  • Try spacers or foam pads

  • Try other masks

 Nasal Congestion or Discharge

  • Adjustment period

  • Add filter and/or have healthcare professional recheck and adjust pressure

  • Add humidifier

 Nasal Airway Drying

  • Increase fluid intake with physician’s permission

  • Try nasal saline or water-based lubricant

  • Try humidifier (passover, heated or room)

  • Try chin strap

 Air Leaks

  • Morning dry eyes caused by air leaks are NOT okay

  • Adjust headgear

  • Change spacers or foam pads

  • Try chin strap

  • Try ADAM system or smaller mask

Skin Breakdown or Irritation

  • Adjust headgear

  • Use spacers, foam pads or topical ointments

  • Try a different headgear

  • Resize mask

  • Change to a different cleaning solution

 

Sensitive Front Teeth

  • Adjust the headgear

  • Try smaller mask

  • Try ADAM system

 Headgear Problems

  • Adjustment period

  • Try different or larger headgear
